Dab Tool FAQs
What is a dab tool and do I really need one?
A dab tool is a small handheld pick, scoop, or paddle used to transfer concentrate from your jar onto a heated quartz banger. Yes, you need one. Concentrates are sticky and uneven in texture, and trying to scoop them with anything else (a key, a paperclip) wastes material and leaves residue on the tool. A proper dabber takes seconds to use and lasts forever.
Metal vs glass vs quartz dab tool: which is best?
Stainless steel and titanium are the most durable and best for thick budders, badders, and waxes that need leverage. Glass is great for live resin and live rosin since it won't react chemically. Quartz tips heat to dab temperature without leaving residue. For one tool, get a stainless steel pick with a flat paddle on the other end. It handles almost everything.
How do I use a dab tool?
Use the pointed pick to scrape a rice-grain to BB-sized portion of concentrate from your jar. Heat the banger, let it cool the recommended time, and tap or drag the concentrate off the tool onto the hot banger surface. Cap with a carb cap and inhale. If concentrate sticks to the tool, gently touch the tool to the hot banger to release it.
Best dab tool for live resin vs shatter?
For live resin and live rosin (wet, sticky), use a flat paddle or scoop in glass or stainless steel. For shatter (brittle, snaps), use a pointed pick to break off shards. For waxes and budders (whipped texture), a small spoon-end works best. Multi-tool dabbers with two or three different ends cover all three styles.
How do I clean a dab tool?
Wipe with a 91 percent isopropyl alcohol soaked cotton swab while the tool is still slightly warm from your last dab, before residue hardens. For deep cleaning, soak the tool tip in iso for 10 to 15 minutes, then wipe clean. Don't soak handles with rubber or silicone grips. Just the working end.
